I received an e-mail this morning from the Friends of Rock Creek’s Environment (FORCE), a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring Rock Creek Park.   While browsing the FORCE website, I noticed they have several trail maintenance/trash cleanup events scheduled over the next few weeks.   For example, on Saturday April 16th @ 9:00 AM, they’ll  be working in partnership with the PATC to clear vines from the trails around Dumbarton Oaks.  Tools and gloves are provided.   I don’t recall any major trail races scheduled for that weekend,  so if you’re interested in volunteering send me an e-mail at jschramka@yahoo.com or reply to this blog post.

One Response to Trail Maintenance in Rock Creek Park

  1. Neal Gorman says:

Great post. I have performed volunteer work in RCP the past two summers. Perhaps you noticed last year’s bulldozing of the over grown Valley Trail? That was me! Not only did the work save my face from the many whacks the brances gave me on runs but it also qualified for trail maintenance work that some races require. If you want to work in RCP, but at your own leisure/available time off, and need a representative to sign off on a race document contact Ken below- his office is by the Horse Stables. He will also provide you tools. You can tell him where you want to work (like I did, because I saw a need) or he will likely have trail locations that require attention.
